When to travel (and how to arrive)
What is the best season to visit Naples?
Naples is a four Seasons town, but late Spring and Autumn are the best moments.
Generally the rainiest months are January, February and November.
Spring, and particularly Easter time, can be the occasion to experience some religious events like the Processions of the “Fujenti” (The Fugitives) of Madonna dell’Arco: especially on Sunday it is possible to find these devoted people dancing ancient, probably with pagan origins, steps accompanied by music bands playing merry and captivating music or you can follow the S. Gennaro Procession, starting from the Cathedral in the late afternoon, the Saturday before the first May Sunday.
In Summer there are many occasions to take part to open air events such as concerts or shows organized by the local administration, often in noble buildings courtyards or at the Royal Palace or at the castles.
August temperatures can be unbearable because of humidity, hard to be fought because of the lack of beaches and overcrowded establishments.
The best period of the year: September, when from the 19th and for a week it is possible to see S. Gennaro’s miraculous blood; October with its breathtaking colors and perfect temperature and December, when the temperature is still at about 17 degrees (about 60°F…), when S. Gregorio Armeno, the hystorical Nativity scenes street, is at its best, even though the artisan shops are opened all year long.
